Starting the New School Year with a Bang – literally!

Both kids started a new school this school year.  If life was simple, both the high school and the middle school would be in the same direction – right?  Yes indeed they were. My life would be immensly simpler this school year.

Alas, the gods were not quite in my court, and the charter middle school starts its day at 7.45.  The slightly further up the same road, high school starts at 8.45! It is just 5 minutes further on from the middle school and 20 minutes from home.  What a messy start.  Leave at 7.15 get back at 7.45, then leave again at 8.10 to get second one to school by 8.30. 20 minutes is neither use nor ornament at any time of the day – barely long enough to swipe bathrooms, not long enough to make a pot of tea, and a strain on the car.

So we fumbled through that first morning. Dropped child number one at school then looked for Starbucks to sit in for 20 minutes.  Not a Startbucks in sight! eventually I grabbed a coffee at a lonesome McD.  Second child dropped of at 8.20, and I headed to work.  I was pulling out into the main road when – bang! yep a bright yellow school bus had rear ended me.  This was not good.

After a few minutes and several conversations as to whether the bus driver wanted to make a formal report or not, the local police appeared and made a semi-formal report, folowed by the school board transportaion dept. who insisted that no quiet deals re repair could be made – it all had to go thru the full formal report and thru every govt channel.

Not a good start to the school year. It could only get better.
